Bimba Releases EFP MultiPosition and EFQ MultiForce Cylinders

Submitted by: on March 17, 2008

Bimba Releases EFP MultiPosition and EFQ MultiForce CylindersBimba Manufacturing announced this week the addition of the EFP MultiPosition and EFQ MultiForce cylinders to the EF product line.
The EFP Extruded Flat MultiPosition cylinder is a double–acting, single rod end cylinder that provides three positions in one cylinder package. This unit is designed to help simplify machine changeovers and save costs. By utilizing the existing EF footprint this two piston design saves space and eliminates the need for an additional cylinder.

The EFQ Extruded Flat MultiForce cylinder is a double-acting, single end rod cylinder that doubles the resultant force on extension. This cylinder features a two piston design that eliminates the need for higher pressure systems or unique configurations. And, to save air volume and operating costs, only one piston is pressurized on the return stroke.

Both cylinders share the same popular benefits of the EF product line, including PTFE impregnated hard anodized body for superior wear resistance and seal life. The EFP and EFQ are both easily interchangeable to other compact extruded cylinders of the same bore size and can easily connect and operate to an application’s pneumatic logic. For detailed specifications, performance, and ordering information, consult the EFQ/EFP catalog.

Bimba Releases Its First Standard Electric Slides

Submitted by: on January 22, 2008

Bimba Releases Its First Standard Electric SlidesBimba Manufacturing announced today the availability of Electric Ultran High Load slides, Bimba’s first standard electric models. The slides achieve a new level of performance with higher positioning accuracy, smoother operation, and facility for positioning control. With a footprint similar to the Bimba Ultran High Load pneumatic line, the products are perfect for addressing high moment loads, high side loads, and processes that require precision positioning like those found in packaging, material handling, and pick-and-place applications.

Models are available in two frames, 09 and 17, with DC motor, step motor, and no motor options in strokes up to 72 inches. The DC motor driven slides produce maximum thrusts from 5 to 168 pounds at maximum speeds from 16 to 40 inches per second. Step motor driven slides produce maximum thrusts from 12 to 200 pounds, at maximum speeds from 15 to 25 inches per second, for applications that require more accurate positioning.

Fine or Coarse frames are available. The Fine frame provides better than 0.010-inch position control, while the Coarse frame provides a more cost-effective solution when 0.100-inch position control is acceptable.

Ball and lead screws are also available. The lead screw provides the quietest operation and least end play, while the ball screw provides the highest efficiency and greatest load capacity. Standard options include stroke length adjustments, bumpers, a switch track, and a screw wiper to keep contamination out of the drive nut.

All Ultran High Load Electric models are covered by Bimba’s 3-year warranty, and are available 5 working days from receipt of order. For detailed performance, selection, and ordering information, consult Bimba’s 12-page UHLE catalog or contact Bimba.

Bimba Launches New Online Sizing & Selection Software

Submitted by: on March 01, 2006

Bimba Launches New Online Sizing & Selection SoftwareBimba Manufacturing announces the release of a powerful, web-based Sizing and Selection module for designing-in Bimba products. The user-friendly software allows engineers to find the right part for the job, test it to different application variables and easily generate a model number for ordering.

There are two major functional benefits of the software—sizing capabilities and part number configuration. The sizing module guides the user through the application parameters and drills down to the best product solution. A top-level search identifies all products meeting selected criteria, quickly narrowing the search for the right solution. After the properly sized product is identified, the software guides the user through the logical creation of a model number for ordering.

If the desired model number is already known, the user can also evaluate the product under different application variables such as changes in velocity, space and force. From that point, the user can access 2D and 3D CAD drawings, as well as real-time pricing and delivery information from Bimba.com.

“It’s perfect for any engineering challenge, regardless of what’s known about the application. It’s the most flexible sizing tool on the market. Whether you know exactly what you need or simply know the general application requirements, Bimba’s Sizing and Selection software is a quick way for you to design-in the perfect solution,” said William Kokum, director of marketing at Bimba.

To employ the software, users click the Sizing Software button on Bimba.com thus downloading the module free of charge.

    Metric Lift Table from Bimba

Submitted by: on April 15, 2004

Metric Lift Table from BimbaThe pneumatic lift table is a short, stable cylinder that incorporates four guide shafts for maximum rigidity. It is designed for lifting applications where other non-rotating cylinders cannot handle an overhung load and space is at a premium. The lift table is available in three bore sizes: 50mm, 80mm, and 125mm which can produce 1,900 pounds of lifting force at 100 psi.

Adding to this family of products, the lift table shares all the same benefits of the extruded flat cylinders, including a PTFE-impregnated hard anodized body that yields low friction and maximum seal life. Options include internal bumpers, magnetic position sensing, and high temperature operation. Stroke lengths are available in 5mm increments to 100mm.

Position Feedback Cylinder from Bimba Available with Integral Rod Lock

Submitted by: on February 16, 2004

Position Feedback Cylinder from Bimba Available with Integral Rod LockBimba Manufacturing Company is pleased to announce the immediate availability of their new position feedback cylinder with integral rod lock, Model PFCL- in five bore sizes. When used in conjunction with the PCS pneumatic position control system, the rod lock can be used to offer a highly repeatable, precise hard stop once the actuator reaches the desired position. If a less accurate position is required, the system can be used in conjunction with a 3 position, 5 way directional control valve for positioning, and engaging the rod lock for a final mid-position hard stop. The PFCL incorporates a clamp/cam device to hold the piston rod in position upon loss of air pressure. Its simple and effective design provides a low-cost, reliable locking cylinder. Holding forces range from 90 pounds in a 1-1/16″ bore cylinder, to 700 pounds in the 3″ bore. The rod lock offers a very cost effective positive, rigid, mid-position stop. It is intended to be used as a static locking device, which can be applied once the piston rod is in the stopped position.

    Application examples include:

  • Variable press (allowing clamping at a variable position)
  • flow gate (adjustable diverter for conveying)
  • work table (different heights for ergonomics)
  • bar feed (feed-clamp applications)

The innovative PFCL expands our product breadth further for position control system products, which include position feedback cylinders that incorporate integral LRT transducers, DPM controllers for precision measuring and gauging applications, PCS pneumatic position control systems for accurate motion control, and TRD NFPA interchangeable actuators that also incorporate integral LRT transducers.

  • Bimba Narrow Profile Air Table Actuator

Submitted by: on May 13, 2002

Bimba Narrow Profile Air Table ActuatorBimba Manufacturing’s Narrow Profile Air Table Actuator (NPA) is a space-efficient slide with a rigid ball bearing rail mounted to the top of a single bore. Two bearing styles are offered (single/double bearing block) to accommodate both lower costs and higher precision/cost applications. It produces a width savings of roughly 50% compared to a Twin Bore of similar bore size.

The NPA actuator features anodized aluminum body and tooling plate. Piston rods are hard chrome plated steel. The cylinder bodies incorporate tracks for efficient mounting of our miniature switch series (MR, MSC, MSK). The bearing system is the same high-performance ball bearing rail used in the Bimba TBA series, so you can expect the same precise guiding and load-carrying capacity. The NPA is currently available in a 12mm bore, in either inch/metric versions.
Standard options include second bearing block, magnetic position sensing, and US customary threads.

Please contact Bimba Manufacturing for further information.
