More Information about Scroll Compressors
A scroll compressor uses a pair of identical meshed scrolls (or involute spirals). One scroll rotates while the other is held stationary. As the scrolls mesh, crescent shaped pockets of gas are formed between the scrolls and move from the outer edge of the scroll toward the center. As the gas pockets proceed to the center of the scroll compressor they diminish in size causing compression.
