More Information on Solenoid Air Valves
Solenoid air valves electrically control compressed air.
Direct solenoid valves feature a solenoid coil that shifts a spool or poppet directly. A spring returns the spool once the electrical current is removed. Large direct-solenoid valves use strong, high-power solenoids.
Solenoid pilot valves use a small pilot valve to control a larger valve. The pilot valve directs air pressure to the end of the spool or poppet, shifting it to the energized position. A spring at the opposite end of the spool returns the spool when the pilot valve is de-energized and pilot pressure is removed.
Some manufactures offer a 4-way pilot that uses a 4-way valve to shift the spool. The advantage of the 4-way pilot is that there is no return-spring on the spool since air pressure is used to shift the spool in both directions.
